This should be a popular topic! Really good beer contains only 4 ingredients: water, barley, yeast and hops. The unique flavour of the beer will depend on the type of barley (and how roasted it is), the type of water and hops, strain of yeast and the temperature and length of fermentation. Real Ale is not pasteurised, but contains live yeast.

Beer can be made with other ingredients including rice, maize (corn) even raspberries and bananas!
