This is a big one. You need to know about Galileo. Everyone disbelieved him about his belief in a heliocentric universe. He was placed under house arrest by the church and was not officially pardoned by the pope until 2000. He also investigated how objects fall.

I’ve done 2 famous scientists this week because year 10 are studying antibiotics.

Scotsman Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, the first antibiotic in 1928 in London. This is what many people regard as the greatest discovery of the twentieth century (no it’s not the mobile phone!) – even though it was by accident!

Edison never questioned whether something might be done, only how.

Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman who developed many devices which greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph and a long lasting light bulb. Edison’s career, the fulfillment of the American dream of rags-to-riches through hard work and intelligence, made him a folk hero to his countrymen.

Before he died, in 1931, he had played a critical role in introducing the modern age of electricity. From his laboratories and workshops emanated the phonograph, the carbon-button transmitter for the telephone speaker and microphone, the incandescent lamp, a revolutionary generator of unprecedented efficiency, the first commercial electric light and power system, an experimental electric railroad, and key elements of motion-picture apparatus, as well as a host of other inventions. of course, he’s on the back of a tenner, looked like uncle Albert and you went camping near his house at Downe in year 7. The fourth greatest Briton who ever lived according to viewers of the BBC!
